Dogging in Northern Ireland: area notes
Northern Ireland has its own legal system, so English and Welsh law summaries don't apply. We cover all six areas on one page and don't publish local numbers.
We have not yet published a legal summary for Northern Ireland, so check the position before you go. The notes below cover the lie of the land in each area.
Belfast
Belfast sits at the head of Belfast Lough on the River Lagan. The M1, M2 and M3 meet here, and the city is the hub for rail and bus links across the north and east.
Antrim
County Antrim runs from the northern edge of Belfast to the Causeway Coast and the Glens of Antrim, and takes in the eastern shore of Lough Neagh. Coast roads here can be slow, exposed and dark.
Down
County Down covers the Ards Peninsula, Strangford Lough and the Mourne Mountains. Newry and Downpatrick are the main towns outside the Belfast commuter belt.
Armagh
County Armagh is known for its orchards and for Armagh city. The Belfast to Dublin rail line runs through Portadown.
Londonderry
County Londonderry covers the north-west, with Derry/Londonderry as its centre. The Sperrin Mountains to the south bring weak phone signal and long, unlit roads.
Tyrone
County Tyrone is mostly rural and mountain country, with Omagh, Dungannon and Cookstown as its main towns. Distances between places are long, so plan your lift home first.
